Mr Dick Austin and Mr David Harrington from the Gas Pipeline Working Group gave a presentation on the proposed gas pipeline. The corridor through the Mullewa Shire from Eradu to Pindar is only to facilitate gas. Surveyors have already pegged the corridor for state corridor rights. All statutory requirements have been met. The Act only allows for gas pipelines. No fencing of the corridor is required. Landowners can utilise land above the corridor. The Working Committee is moving towards the acquisition stage with 100% market value being paid as compensation to landowners. The Minister for Planning and Infrastructure will issue a notice of intention to take land from affected landowners. A two-month objection time will be available. Pipeline owners have liability for the pipeline. Points discussed were: Regional partnerships projects Partners National Trust Midwest Development Commission (State Government representative) Federal Government Council 4 focus areas Matching funding required for projects Redevelopment of the Monsignor Hawes Heritage Trail A feasibility study and management plan to identify how the Trail can be redeveloped. i.e. improving or adding facilities. The Committee is currently gathering information to find out who will be involved and how they are going to achieve objectives. A quote for $70,000 from a consultant has been received to prepare a preliminary feasibility study. The push is now for regional partnerships to consult the community and prepare feasibility.
